Schadenfreude

Description

Dr. Grevioux was almost giddy with anticipation as he walked down the well-lit, reinforced concrete hallway with the cyborg known as Hermann von Trotha, the Iron Chancelor who was once a Gruppenführer in the Third Reich and now in command of his own faction of the Fourth . Grevioux was a smaller man than von Trotha, obviously, and slight of build with dry, thin lips that he wet with his tongue constantly. His hair was graying at the temples and in his goatee as he approached his mid-forties. The man's hands worked as he explained the situation to the Iron Chancellor, quickening his pace to keep up with the mechanical stride of his superior.

"Operation: Übermensch has been a complete success from start to finish sir. I think you will be pleased with this little test exercise Hiltraud and I..."

"Hiltraud? You gave her a name?" the Chancellor asked, stopping in mid step, his green lights casting a glow over the white-clad scientist.

"Of course Herr von Trotha. Hiltraud in German means Strength in Battle, and she is so very, incredibly strong!"

"Why name her...I was under the impression she would simply be known as Schadenfreude...perhaps you should inform me of everything you and your department have been doing in my absence." von Trotha replied in his low, electronic voice.

Grevioux nodded. "We took the liberty of implanting her with memories Herr von Trotha, memories and a name. It is all an illusion for control of course, but it will work substantially better than if she was to think she was simply a clone bred for nothing but battle and conquest. That could give rise to complications...rebellion..."

"Go on." the Iron Chancellor asked with piqued interest.

"Her name is Hiltraud Volkenrath, found in suspended animation from the Second World War, much like Ilsa's pet project Brunhilde at the moment. She is full of memories of battle and conquest in the name of the Fatherland. We used historical clips primarily, hundreds of hours of footage from the war and from the movement...and of course if any latent memories should pop up, they should easily explain her powers and years of combat experience. So far she hasn't questioned any of it. She truly believes she was a super-soldier project from the end of the war and that she was hand-selected, nothing more than a German girl in the Bund Deutscher Mädel at the time, by you personally Herr von Trotha. She is completely loyal and fanatic to our cause. She even wishes to revenge herself against the Soviet Superwoman, whom in a touch of irony we told her was a less powerful Soviet knock-off of her own genetics, for what she did to you before the wars end!"

"What if she does begin to suspect that you have tampered with her Grevioux?" von Trotha asked in a cautious tone. "she could become dangerous to me."

The scientist shook his head. "If she ever becomes a problem, I have implanted in her brain a titanium shielded capsule containing enough mercury and cyanide to make her no longer an issue. One push of a button and we can start over."

The Iron Chancellor was quiet for a moment before he continued to make his way down the hallway. Several more white coated scientists passed them as Grevioux hurried to catch back up. "You worked on Project: Grendel with Ilsa, correct, as well as The Red Doktor?"

"Indeed, with Red Doktor Henderson and others. Ilsa attempted to wipe the slate clean with that French girl, making her nothing more than a silent, obedient killer. As you know it didn't work out well at all. I've learned from her mistakes in that operation and have no intention of replicating them. Besides, compared to that experiment this one is light-years ahead in terms of both the sciences involved and the scale of success that we have achieved in so short a time period!"

"What about her strengths and combat effectiveness?" he asked after a few long seconds.

"Strength wise she is more than a match for the Soviet or anyone else on the planet. Ilsa's contribution to her genetic makeup as much as her own altered DNA have made her virtually indestructible as well, and somewhat larger in mass than the original. A side effect of Ilsa's genetic coding. We have quite a potent mixture going on inside Hiltraud! In any event we have found no known conventional weapon that has so much as scratched her skin. Of course, as you have pointed out before, electricity, sonic weapons and the fact she must breathe are all vulnerabilities...but they are her only vulnerabilities. She is capable of flight at tremendous speeds, moments of hypersonic speed just like her original...but..."

"Ah, the famous but...what isn't she capable of doing Grevioux?"

The scientist grinned, looking over at the brain-case of the Iron Chancellor. "While she cannot fire bursts of her infamous laser vision, she is somehow capable of gathering and discharging massive bursts of iconic energy from her hands!"

"What? How?" Von Trotha was already beginning to ponder the possible explanation, but kept them to himself.

Grevioux shook his head, all smiles from ear to ear. "I have no idea! We searched for a genetic match or something that might have been an aberration but found nothing. No clue at all, but she has the ability just the same! Come and see for yourself!"

Guards flanking the heavy, steel-reinforced doors at the end of the hall pulled them apart in anticipation of their arrival, allowing the two men to enter without breaking stride. It was a large, underground arena of sorts, completely sound-proof and about the size of a football field. Originally some kind of storage facility for a German industrial company, the Iron Chancellor had had the abandoned area rebuilt for what he had intended to be a weapons hanger. Instead it had been re-purposed into a training room for a single test subject. About a dozen geneticists, biologists and other members of his science division encircled the room, typing on tablets, comparing notes and filming the massive woman standing in the center of the chamber.

Hiltraud Volkenrath, the clone of the Soviet Valkyrie known as Schadenfreude stood at just over six and a half feet in height. The eyes were pale and blue, just like her genetic donor, but her raven black hair was flecked with streaks of natural platinum blonde and shaved on the sides. Her torso was as wide as a bookcase, and her neck was thick with muscle as well. Her forearms were large, and her biceps were even larger with deep cuts to them. Her waist was still slender in contrast to her hips and extremely massive legs. Most strange of all was the size of her breasts,  looking massive in spite of how huge the rest of her chest was. The woman was barely dressed in almost Nazi-exploitation fetish-wear, something that von Trotha would have frowned upon had he any lips to speak of. She turned and looked at the two men as they entered and grinned devilishly. Grevioux approached her, hands spread wide at his sides.

"My dear, this is your sponser and the man responsible for all of your incredible powers. May I introduce Gruppenführer von Trotha, the Iron Chancellor." he said motioning towards the cyborg.

The powerfully built woman saluted her master, arm outstretched. "Heil the Iron Chancellor!" she shouted in a German accented voice. Von Trotha returned the salute before taking a few steps forward.

"Herr Doktor Grevioux says you have a demonstration for me my dear." he intoned in his cold, mechanical voice. The young woman nodded eagerly, flexing her almost soccer ball sized bicep for him.

"Indeed I do sir." she began, "After which, all you will have to do is point me at this Soviet copy. She is already dead."

To be continued...
