June 25th, 1955
Over the skies near Khabarovsk, Siberia USSR

Mere hours after losing Moscow, the invaders employed a deadly new strategy. Several of the alien motherships had fallen back from other major cities and taken up position over an area of Siberia. The morning sun glistened and gleamed off their strange metal hulls, throwing jagged shadows onto the snow and ice below them. With their forces massed the invaders began to shower the city of Khabarovsk with blasts of energy, no longer interested it would seem in sending in ground forces or even fighter wings. The massive bombardment quickly began reduced the largest city in Siberia to nothing but smoldering ash and slag. Hitler had done the same thing when the citizens of Lidace and Ležáky resisted his rule in Czechoslovakia and harbored the assassins of Heydrich, the Butcher of Prague. In his rage Hitler ordered the arrest, deportation, imprisonment or killing of over 13,000 Czechs before reducing both towns to rubble. Perhaps the aliens, in their fury over losing the Soviet capital, had learned a lesson from the German dictator and now turned their wrath into physical manifestation. The fleet comprised of five great warships moved slowly and in formation over the landscape, unleashing volley after terrible volley upon anything that resembled human life.

Hearing the reports, Olga Yezhov flew as quickly as she could to intercept the death squadron. She was still so very tired. A brief respite after the invaders abandoned Moscow was the only rest she had gotten after ten days of almost non-stop combat. All she wanted to do was lie down and sleep, just for a few more hours. The stunning woman had red circles under her eyes, both from crying over the devastation her people and great nation had suffered and from fatigue. Every inch of her body was sore and tight, yet she still flew on to meet her foes. When would it be enough? When would she finally cause them enough loss to where they would break off their attacks on Earth? Would anything be left after that happened? Olga had heard that her yet unknown opposite number had brought the battle to the aliens in Washington DC. Maybe, soon she hoped, the Americans would put aside their differences in the face of so terrible an enemy and work together with the Soviet Union. They had done so once before and despite their shocking betrayal she would have valued their friendship again.

As she neared the armadas location she slowed her speed and her eyes grew big. Never had she seen so many of the massive ships gathered together at one time. The destruction they were enacting was on a scale her mind could barely comprehend. Her fists tightened into balls capable of punching through inches of solid steel like they were cardboard. She steadied herself, lip quivering. Perhaps the loss of this mighty fleet would once and for all put their dreams of global conquest to rest. This was desperation...gathering their forces into one fighting unit so they would have a chance at defeating her. She knew that was the main purpose. Nothing in their arsenal thus far had managed to slow her down. As she rocketed towards the ships, enormous weapon platforms hovering in the sky she knew in her heart that there was nothing they had that could stop her and they knew it. Perhaps this world was the first one that had managed to hurt them this badly. One super-powered being from a "backwater, uncivilized ball of mud and water" had stopped the grand plans of their entire population. Olga raised her arms forward and accelerated with her super-speed at the first mothership.

With a battle cry from the Russian woman like the bellow of a holy warrior she punched through the side of the alien vessel, causing the hull to explode inwards as she traveled into the interior of the ship. Soviet Superwoman ripped through deck after deck at super-sonic speeds. Klaxons rang out and the strange tongue of the invaders could be heard echoing across the halls. She caught glimpses of the aliens as she rocketed past, their eyes wide in panic and disbelief. If she could translate what they were saying she imagined it would be prayers to whatever gods they worshiped. As she punched her way into a room full of electronic devices and massive computer banks, Olga fired off twin beams of laser vision as she raced past. The red blasts impacted with the instruments causing them to explode in a cascade of sparks. One after another down the line as she raced past they detonated violently. As she continued on, her fists knocking open the wall in front of her, the previous chamber was obscured completely by flames and exploding shrapnel. The ship physically lurched to one side, making her adjust her flight slightly. A trail of super-heated gases and flames ripped out behind her in a trail as she emerged from the opposite of the great ship.

Olga stopped in mid air and took a few deep breaths before turning around behind her. The mothership was mortally wounded and already descending rapidly towards the ice-capped peaks of the Urals. Cape fluttering in the air, she watched it for a moment more almost transfixed that she had been capable of felling so massive a foe. She could hear the muffled explosions continuing from inside the mother ship as it cascaded downwards. A series of hissing and popping sounds erupted from the sides of the ship followed by a series of what could only be described as escape pods launched in all directions. She followed them down with her eyes trying to imagine what was going through their heads. Maybe now they understood was it was like to feel loss. Perhaps they knew what it was to be beaten. A noise above her brought her attention back to the rest of the armada. A vessel had emerged from the underbelly of one of the nearest ships. It was a larger vessel than the fighters she had been battling, more ponderous. It resembled a long insect of sorts with "legs" hanging down off the bottom and a series of "eyes" flanking it along the sides. The strange ship moved forward slowly. Olga arched an eyebrow. A command vessel of sorts? Their leaders may have finally come to talk about putting an end to these hostilities in the face of such defeat.

The mothership below her finally impacted with the ground settling off an explosion that caused the top of the ship to scatter outwards in all directions. Most of the escape pods were caught in the firestorm, never having had a chance. Olga moved cautiously towards the strange, smaller ship directly in front of her. It hadn't taken any aggressive actions thus far and now she noticed that the rest of the warships had ceased firing on the ground targets. As she neared the vessel it suddenly let out a powerful electric hum that caused her to grip the sides of her head. Her teeth ached as the intense low frequency sound continued to grow. Arches of orange energy began to leap from one "eye" to another across it's hull. Whatever this ship was doing it was building up a massive amount of energy for something. The sky seemed to grow dark around it and the air grew incredibly cold, like slipping into a bathtub full of ice-water. Olga wasn't going to give it time to complete whatever it was building up to. She raced towards the underbelly of the device, all her mind bent upon knocking it out of the sky.

With a tremendous flash, the space between the metallic "legs" of the vessel suddenly filled with a swirling vortex of energy. A ring formed in the middle with bands of energy extending outwards like tentacles. Olga stopped her flight in mid-air only to be grabbed by an incredible gravitational pull. She turned, using a good deal of strength to do so and began to fly back the other direction. She made a little headway, but the vortex continued to increase in size and intensity, pulling her slowly back towards the icy blackness of its event horizon. Panic began to set in. She called upon her reserves of super-sonic speed, trying desperately to pull free from it's grip. Sweat poured off her forehead from the intensity of her efforts. Her entire body seemed to be held in place for a moment, vibrating and shuddering violently. She let out a cry, her eyes squeezing shut as she pushed forward with every ounce of strength she could muster. All of it was for naught. Unable to maintain her super-speeds for more than a few more minutes, the Soviet Superwoman continued to get pulled backwards towards the energy field.

Cold realization slapped her in the face. She had been in a situation like this before, ten years ago. The bone-numbing aura of cold...the vacuum like forces pulling her towards a portal of sorts. The Nazi war criminal Ilsa Hauppman had used a device to transport her to another place...another time...it was all a blur of consciousness that she barely remembered. Ilsa had used it to escape Berlin and possibly to destroy or imprison her hated Russian foe. She was unsure how long she had drifted there, in-between worlds...in dreams...in seemed like an eternity. Olga had found herself several miles from Berlin about a week later with barely any memory of what had occurred. Had Ilsa discovered this technology from the invaders? Had they been in league with the Nazi's the entire time and now returned to exact retribution for the defeat of their allies. All of these thoughts and more raced through her mind as she was pulled closer and closer to the singularity. Desperately she fought against it, feeling herself growing weaker and weaker against the forces being exerted against her. There was nothing more she could do.

It was finished.

Tears welled up in her eyes. She shook her head from side to side fiercely. It couldn't end like this. There was so much that depended on her. The lives of all of her friends...all the people of the USSR...so many people...not like this. Please God, not like this...

"Nyet!...I could have done it...I could have done it for all of us..." Olga cried to the heavens themselves.

"I could have saved them...I could have saved so many more..." she said quietly, her eyes open wide, staring at the burning city far below her. Her fingers stretched out wide in front of her as if she was trying in the end to reach out and touch it.

As Olga made contact with the swirling mass of energy the sky shook with her final agony-filled scream of rage, fear, defiance and incredible sorrow.

Then she was gone.

The energy vortex disappeared with her leaving nothing behind. No trace of what had happened to the greatest heroine the world had ever known, or was likely to have known again.

Seconds later the bombardment began anew.

I cried like a baby writing the end of this chapter. :(

This incredible image was once again created by :iconbakart: and commissioned by :iconandrewr255: who has been instrumental in helping me write and develop this chapter of her life.

Soviet Superwoman and the story are all my creations and property.

To read a bit more about events happening in this dimension, several years later check out this fascinating story by my good friend :iconneosoc:: [link]

This takes place in the home dimension of Soviet Superwoman and will expose a great deal more about her history before arriving in :iconangel-fallsda:
